Staci Tannahill-Smith

Associate

Staci works with Intended Parents, Surrogates (gestational carriers), Egg Donors, Sperm Donors, and Embryo Donors. She is experienced in protecting her clients’ interests while maintaining the important relationships they have built.

Prior to joining Embury & West in 2025, Staci practiced in the areas of family and estates law. She brings nearly a decade of experience in legal conflict and court processes. Staci’s background in education, counselling, and mediation allows her to take thoughtful, people-first approaches in fertility matters. She doesn’t just work on behalf of her clients, she works with them, helping them feel seen, heard, and supported throughout the legal process.

Staci received her JD from the University of Calgary and was called to the Alberta Bar in 2017. She also holds certificates in mediation and counseling/family therapy, which she integrates into all aspects of her legal practice. She has presented for the Legal Education Society of Alberta (LESA) and the Canadian Bar Association, and her work has been published in LESA’s Family Law Handbook.

Outside the office, Staci co-owns a floral design business with her husband and can often be found in her garden, bouquet in hand. She is an avid traveller, a macaron connoisseur, and enjoys spending her free time with a good mystery novel and her dog, Captain.
